The page for it is obviously still on the server:

http://specialx.net/cgi-sys/mchat.cgi?c ... ecialx.net

Doesn't look like it's connected into the chat system anymore though.

Having a working chat thing here would have come in handy for Steely and I in recent times - something about my MSN Messenger just hasn't been working properly for quite some time.

But ...

I guess we should try to get this thread back to the subject it started as.

So, here's an updated webcam shot of my Slade hardcovers - with the addition of the fantastic copy of Bed of Nails, courtesy of e_taylor.

Those Viking/Penguin spines look so good together.

Just Death's Door left to get. I did have an opportunity to get a hardcover copy of it a while back, but the dustjacket was in bad condition, and the book itself was a bit warped out of shape.

It's too bad people don't take better care of their books.

Very nice hard cover collection Mbwun!

When I get around to it, I hope to have a copy of hard cover & paper back for each - signed. I think I'm about half way there.

p.s. Mbwun - I've found that the Yahoo instant messenger seems to work pretty well for chatting / keeping in touch with people?

You can have mine on facebook, hardcover of Ripper.

I will hunt around my computer to post it as my avatar here, then it can be nicked..

Just curious, as that particular picture, of that particular version of the book, looks different from any other that I've seen online.

By "nicked" I'm assuming you mean copying it to my hard-drive.

What makes you think I hadn't already done that?

krista in ma,

I tried Yahoo Messenger a couple of times, and found the user interface to be kind of confusing. I wasn't a big fan of MSN Messenger either - online chat is just not my thing, but Steely preferred it to just e-mailing back and forth - said he liked the spontaneity of it.

He was the only person I was talking to using it, so I'm not really in the market for a chat thingee any more.

Thanks just the same, though.

That would be the book club edition. The first edition is really hard to come by!

Found me a beautiful condition hardcover copy of Death's Door today at Value Village for $5.99.

It had a bookmark in it, and by the looks of it, whoever owned this before me only read chapter 1. :(

I wish Steely was here for me to tell the good news. He was always so jubilant for me when I found a book that I'd been looking for for a long time. I should be happier about finding it, but without him, it's just not the same.

Would, that I could, e_taylor, but I've pretty much resigned myself to the knowledge that finding any UK editions of Slade's books is highly unlikely, considering the places that I've been obtaining my collection from.

With the exception of those that I've purchased new, and the one you sent me, the rest have come from thrift stores in the area.

Hmmmmmm! Sounds like someone is thinking about being generously naughty.

Have you ever been able to determine whether this book was ever actually published?

If it was, here's to you running across a copy of it some day. :D
