A loose cannon? Me?

Surely not.

I don't like events where nothing surprising happens. Give me a streaker at the Oscars any day. Poor Don Maass, with his whip and chair. He had Montecore on his hands.

Oh, yes, two reasons in one why I'm a Sladist:

(J.J. DeBenedictis on Slade)

"insane, hilarious and very mercenary explanation for why it's okay his book about the Vancouver Olympics is coming out six weeks before the Olympics actually start..."

"His rationale boils down to: 'Vancouverites hate the Olympics and will thus buy my book about a serial killer wreaking havoc upon the Olympics out of shadenfreude.'"

Witness: "The victim lived."

Not really SIWC related, but this is probably a good place to put this anyhow:

Slade & McCammon at the same event? It's tough not being able to make it to these.

Hopefully we'll hear from someone how things went.

I'll post a summary of all of the shenanigans of this year's SIWC when I get back. I volunteer there every year, for the last 3 years.

Slade,

I'll probably be meeting up for lunch with a friend from Jack Whyte's board, more than likely on the Saturday of the conference. He's a budding writer, with his first novel nearing completion, and will be flying up from San Diego to attend the conference. Will you be around there at that time?

If so I was thinking it might be nice to say "hi" and maybe bring along some of my books for signing.

ps. He's found himself pretty much in charge of the Historical Novel Society's next North American Conference, to be held in San Diego in June of next year:

Mbwun,

Bring everything you want signed. It ups the value. There's no limit on the number. Slade has a motto: "If you buy 10,000 books, you have a right to 10,000 signatures."

You won't have any trouble finding me. All paths cross through the lobby. So we'll sit down for a talk.

I go to cons to meet the fans, not avoid them.

I'll see how many I can carry.

If Jack is going to be around, I'll have a couple for him to sign too, since it looks as if the nearest of his book signings for the book he's got coming out near the end of this month is an evening appearance at the Strawberry Hill Chapters, and I have trouble with night driving.

His new book is about the life of William Wallace.

The theme for the SIWC Saturday banquet & night owl event is Crime Scene Investigation this year! The Executive Director of the Vancouver Police Museum, Chris Mathieson will be there to enthrall with everything you'd want to know about blood spatter.

Slade,

I'll be meeting up with my friend from San Diego at The Pantry in Guildford Mall sometime around 10:30 on Saturday morning for brunch. I'll probably be parking in the mall parking lot, so I won't be bringing that many books with me, since I don't think I want to be carrying that heavy a load from the parking lot to the hotel. Especially in light of the fact that it sounds as if our weather is about to fall apart.

Hopefully, I'll be in the lobby around noon.

Out of curiosity, what's the visitor parking situation like at The Sheraton?
