It's really expensive.

Yeah, it was pricey all right. But I wouldn't have been able to bring near as many books with me to be signed if I hadn't parked there. Hoofing that load over from the Guildford Mall parking lot would have been murder.

And I figure that the increase in value of the books, now that they're signed, way more than makes up for the cost of parking.

Oh, and a BIG Thank You to Slade, for enduring the writer's cramp necessary to sign that heaping stack of books I brought with me. :D

It was interesting to find out that Slade is a south-paw, since both my parents are too. None of us kids are, but my oldest sister and I were both ambidextrous at first. We've always told mom and dad that two wrongs make a right.

I really want to have my day to meet the master.

Damn you J. K. Rawlings and the release of the Harry Plopper book that spoiled my meeting him back in 2002. Ugh! Would've had all my novels signed.

Maybe just maybe he'd trek to our countries Capitol and allow me to get my novels all signed.

The day will come oh yes siree!

Can't wait for it to be my turn :P

You can always come to Victoria ....
there's still time ...

Mr Slade, will you be wearing that hat for the banquet? Perhaps some tails to complete the ensemble? You would look quite dapper!

Bloody Words

Postby chaos-consultants » Mon Feb 07, 2011 5:28 pm

Hi, rather than posting a new thread I will continue this one. I have been helping with aspects of organizing the Bloody Words conference and am primarily involved in the program book. It is still early to describe contents, but we are starting to break down some of the general themes of the conference. In addition to this as noted on Slade's news page there will be a Ghost walk around Victoria. To attend this portion of the conference you MUST be registered as an attendee and I believe it is limited to 20 or so people. You can register here: http://www.bloodywords2011.com/

Furthermore if you are a writer or own a business and wish to take an ad out in the program book, please email me as it is one area I am in charge of.

In the meantime here are the themes Slade is tentatively involved in:

1. Theme/Culture Focus - The Ethics of Crime Writing (Panel)
2. Horror, Violence, Gore: How Much Is Too Much?

If you are attending and have an idea for a topic you would like to see on the agenda, please email me and I will bring up at our next meeting.

Also who is planning to attend and we can carpool over from the lower mainland and save some $$

John

SO....

I have a map of Vancouver airport..

I have a rough timetable of SKYTRAIN to Bridgeport..
620 bus to the ferry
ferry to Swartz
Bus 70 to downtown Victoria..

Obviously the timetables will change for the summer season..

To buy a one way 3 zone ticket to get me from the airport to the ferry will mean i get charged C$5 for the priviledge.. on top of the normal fare

Thats a way to make money..

I have a tourist map of Victoria...
And staggering distance of the convention site..

And i found a site where you can discounts, but only if you live in Victoria...

All is good..

Watch out Victoria.. the Brits are coming..

yes, I found that same information.
What is a staggering distance? From your hotel? And where might that be?
Oh! This is your first big trip abroad isn't it? What did you do? Book into some really fancy, posh place?

Well it doesn't look fancy from the photo's..

And it is within staggering distance of the conference place, and the red light district according to Slade's books..
So i may use them to investigate the totem pole museum.. china town.... red light area..

Obviously i will play the tourist lost and asking directions to the rozzers when they turn up to arrest me for soliciting..
xx

Really? I kinda picture you in some posh place with a spa or something ....
Red Light District? Hmmm ....
I checked a map too, but my hotel is not what I would call a staggering distance from the seminar. I figure it is June, it is warm ... I'll walk. Might be nice.

As long as you're close to the Bloody Words site, that's all that matters. The room is a place to sleep.

The schedule will clarify in the next month or two.

Vancouver is a great town to explore and pretty quick to travel around. You guys will certainly enjoy a splendid time. Bummer I can't attend. Damn you economy and having to return to school as a mature student.

At least today I got good news that my coop term with DND is a go! yeehaa! Hard to believe my future would end up working a) in the gov't and b) for a military department but stranger things have happened.
