PolhSE-

The second one is amazing! Perfect!I read your comments re: the razor. What about the RCMP logo instead?

Ok, I'll try the logo. :)

Here is a modified version of that last one... the goofy hand is gone and I added the ".net" to Special X to fill that empty spot:

Edited to add:

Here is a less busy version of the flag wallpaper:

Steelclaw,

That's cool! It also separates the image from the icons on the desktop. Don't be sorry, with enough of us doing this we might be able to generate enough material for a download section... Special X wallpapers; by Sladists, for Sladists! :)

raasnio,

I like that one you sent me... The only thing I'm going to do, if you don't mind, is make the font larger and emboss it. I have one I'm polishing up that uses the collector cover of Headhunter as inspiration.

I may try and replicate some of the effects from the Japanese covers next.

Just abit of constructive criticism... I don't mean to change the picture around too much (and maybe I am the only one this bothers...), but anyway to make the teeth less yellow? Maybe my screen brightness is off kilter or something - but they are really bright to me, and really stand out compared to everything else. Just a thought :) No offense meant.

Some of the local police departments have rather bland wallpaper for the computers. Case in point: Waterville, a small village some 20 miles south of Toledo, features a single image at the center of the screen:

Image

Surrounded by a light blue background, the image is sometimes replaced by the official crest of the village of Waterville, and occasionally the words Waterville Police can be found in the bottom right corner.

My point is this: perhaps the wallpaper can be the crest of Vancouver, or even a photograph of somewhere in Vancouver, such as a landmark from the books. Possibly a certain set of totems, or a specific suspension bridge? I'm sure that Starra wouldn't mind someone utilizing her Slade's Vancouver photos if she were asked.

I came across this while searching for ideas:

In my head I see the crest accompanied by the words Special X Division, RCMP or something technical of that sort.

Just a thought.

Can someone make a cover that is dark and represents some of the villains from the books or try and illustrate some of the macabre scinerios? Or show a scenic scene depicted in the books as a wallpaper. I am not dissing the work shown thus far, but the negative image too me anyway looks corny compared to the first idea posted.

As for the Special X image with the head that looks like card board seems cheese to me. Sorry, I haven't contributed anything yet so my opinions are uncalled for. Maybe I should take a crack at it and try one myself. QUESITON what are the requirements for creating wallpaper? make it 1024x780 pixels and resolution of 300 dpi?

Let me know and I will take a stab to contribute and will openly accept any criticism/flack put toward my ideas created.

CG

and I like the idea of creating a catagory of creations for sladists by sladists.

Kirsta,

You are right! I didn't realize it but the little florescent desk lamp that I have sitting next to the computer is casting a yellow pall on the screen, the result is that yellows on my screen are washed out! :) :)

I'll give myself a slap in the forehead, turn the light off, and desaturate those teeth.

Cawdorgraves,

Your opinions are just as called for as anyone else’s! There isn't a requirement on offering constructive criticism, if these wallpapers are going to be for anyone who wants them then we all need input on what people want.

...And yes, the head does look fake. I didn't put a whole lot of polish on the idea because I wanted opinions. :)

I have been creating these at 1024 X 768 at 300 DPI but, for the sake of those on dial-up I have lowered them to 800 X 600 when I saved them as .jpgs...

So please, if you want to, make a few... If you don't want to, no problem, but either way we all want the input.

TBLightning492,

I like the idea of the crest on a landscape... Hey, Starra, can we use a few of your photos?? Pleaseeeeeeee? :)
