Special "X" Wallpaper

A place for Sladists to share their thoughts on Michael Slade and his work...

Postby PohlSE » Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:49 am

Ok, I toned down the yellow on his teeth; I also added a few bits to give it some depth to the face, added some different stains on the on the mask, smudged the harsh line around the edges, dragged the bottom out some so it would look like a bag, and added some stitching. :)

Is it improved or worsened?

Slade,

I have a couple where I used your images from here, is it alright if I post them?

Alright, thank you!

Ok, here it goes...

These two are nearly identical, but my preference is the second:

This one is a similar idea, but it doesn't seem quite right. I have developed a total brain lock on this one and don't know where to go:

This is my favorite:

I welcome any suggestions for changes!

I'm still debating on trying to mimic the effects from a Japanese cover...

I really like this one. Could you use the original woman's head on a stick instead of using Slade's face? I think it would be pretty cool. I love the color scheme. 8-)

I know you're joking, but that's not a bad idea...

Using the woman's head would be easier! The reason I left some of her hair (and made it look like Slade was wearing a fright wig) in the first place was so Slade's head wouldn't look flat after I edited out the black background. :)

I do that tomorrow and post it

ok with regards to the mask, I like the changes, however, could you loose the stitching on the right side, and maybe minimalize the stitching around the mouth. I am not sure that the button eye is adequate, maybe something else like a telescope type idea (green/red coloring).

What happened to the hand that was involved with the razor? I liked that element. Made the knife more suspenseful. Again I am being biased and giving my input.

I need to set up a paintbucket account so I can post images to this site.

I prefer the 2nd image with bigger fonts around the icons faces.

hey on the Michael Slade Claw font page, could you reduce the font size so it isn't as big height wise. I love the ligthening strikes.

What font is that? Is it free to acquire?

That font is called either Claw 1 or Claw 2, I found it on dafont.com which is a free site.

I love finding these weird fonts. On the same site you can find one called "Neverwinter," that's the one I used where Jay and Rebecca are looking through the letters (the Special X part was done with the "Load" font).

Some of the best are the movie and music fonts. The Megadeth font is one of my favorites, and I used the "28 days later" font for the broken letters with the psycho head.

I've got an insane amount of fonts on my hard drive... Its a sickness really... :?

You don't like the button eye? :) There was something strangely attractive about having something so normal attached to something so grotesque... It sort of reminded me of the psycho's mask in the movie Nightbreed. The mouth stitching was almost a zipper... but it started to look like a gimp mask. :)

I deleted the hand from the razor because it didn't seem to fit in and I was too lazy to rework it. Maybe if it was gloved, or bandaged it would fit better.

Steelclaw,

Actually it was based on one of my old bosses... That's why it was almost a gimp mask!

TBLightning492,

Thank you very much, I'm still learning all the tricks but it's a blast to do. And no one has seen anything yet. Just wait till Mbwun gets back online and shows us all how it’s done. :)

Ok raasnio,

Here you are:

http://hometown.aol.com/pohlse/specialxwallpaper2a.jpg

Slade's head removed, woman's head returned.

Edited to add:

wsimon,

Thanks to the suggestions and insight of TBLightning, here is a more official looking special x wallpaper:

http://hometown.aol.com/pohlse/totemwallpaper.jpg

I found an image of Stanley Park on the internet, removed all the people and tourist guides, and then cropped it down a bit so I could slip Slade into the image.

It's pretty basic and I can change or move whatever you want as long as it doesn't cover the top of the totem pole. :)

You can download them anywhere but for them to work you would have to unzip them into the C:\WINDOWS\Fonts directory (if you are using windows, I know nothing about Macs). They are tiny little files so even with a several hundred of them ( ) it doesn't take an awful lot of space.
