Slade's Vancouver

A place for Sladists to share their thoughts on Michael Slade and his work...

Slade's Vancouver

Postby Starra » Fri Apr 15, 2005 5:01 am

I had this thought today whilst I was heading downhill on Lonsdale Ave in North Vancouver.

I passed West of Java, which I am *certain* is the "To Bean or Not To Bean" that Corp. Nick Craven used to live above, and it occurred to me.

Would the Sladists be interested in visuals of Slade's Vancouver as part of the gallery, if Eric would be so kind as to host the jpegs?

I've got a digital camera, and a tonne of spare time.

I know my way around the GVR because of Slade, and know where most of the locales are.

Now, Gil's house and Declerq's house are a little less specific, but you get a great view of Sentinal Hill from Stanley Park, and Lighthouse Point has a public park in the area.

So, if you are all interested, and Eric would be so kind, I'd love to put this together for you over the next month or so.

Hell, I'll even travel to the scary wilds of New West and Coquitlam, if the site of Nick Craven's acquital and Jack MacDougall's death are of interest.

Anybody interested?

Great idea Starra! And very thoughtful of you to offer your spare time.

It's been years since I've been to Vancouver so I'd love to see the area again - and see if some of the sights are the same as I remember them.

Absolutely fantastic idea, Starra! Thanks for volunteering! :D Any visuals you provide will be more than welcomed by this fellow Sladist.

I've never been to Vancouver. I'm sure pictures of places mentioned in the novels would be of great interest. :)

I don't have the first four books here, so I'm trying to remember locations out of my head.

If you could post the places you are most interested in, and the book they came from, I'll start shooting pics as soon as the rain slows down.

Have map, will travel!

Same here. I have never been to Vancouver and it would be great to put "real" pictures to the pictures I have in my head from the novels.

Thanks Starra!

Hey, Starra, you trooper!

Go ahead with your pics and send them to me.

Maybe you could send them to me in small doses so my Hotmail account won't explode! (darkworlds30@hotmail.com)...or if you think of any other way...

You think you could label each pic too?

Thanks!

Eric, you are a sweety for indulging the Sladists this way!

And OF Course, I'll label each of them.

So, Sladists, what do you want to see?

Gmail is the other way. I'll create a Gmail account and send my address to you, Starra. This will mean no worrying about my inbox exploding as Gmail's inbox is ...what...4 times as big as Hotmail's...?

Thanks raasnio

Edited to say: Eric, expect a couple of pics later today.

The Roommate wants to take the dog to Lynn Valley Canyon, so I'll get some pics of the suspension bridge where Brigit Marsh was hanging from, and if he's being nice, some of the Lonsdale Quay Hotel and the big red Q, and of course, West of Java/To Bean or Not to Bean.

Anything else that triggers a Slade memory, I'll get that too.

I went over to the North Shore. When we left East Van, the sun was shining, the sky was clearing and it was lovely.

Three snaps into our trip to the Canyon, the sky opened up.

If you don't like the weather in Vancouver, wait 15 minutes.

I sent 4 pics to Eric. I'll send more next weekend.

Those are some great looking pictures, Starra. Now I want to go back and re-read the books so that I can better visualize the settings!
