A place for Sladists to share their thoughts on Michael Slade and his work...

Sladists,

Today, July 31, 2007, at 11:13 AM Pacific Daylight Saving Time, I finished Novel # 13.

For my birthday, two months ago, someone gave me a bottle of vintage French rose, which I've been saving to sit back with my feet up to savor this moment.

Why Novel # 13 is so important will become evident in the posts to come. But meanwhile, it's a beautiful day out there and the beach is calling, and I don't plan to do a damn thing until after Labor Day.

When I was a kid and there was only one pop station for us to listen to, you knew it was summer the moment they played Jerry Keller's "Here Comes Summer."

Well, that's what's playing in my head.

Glad to hear it, Slade! So we can all enjoy a little anticipatory triskaidekaphobia while you enjoy the summer...

Congratulations on your achievement and the just rewards! To fathom the luxury of not working and having the accomplishments to achieve that is a dream come true I am certain you and the family will enjoy this time of celebration. The calm before the storm so to speak as you certainly know the whirlwind that is expected to follow.

Lucky #13 hey! I bet when you started Headhunter you didn't exactly know how far Michael Slade would take you. Might you tell us about some of the treasured moments of your career as an author?

Looking forward to seeing the artwork and its release.

Congrats on finishing your book! I still haven't read Swastika OR Kamikaze yet...I know, I know...I'll get to them soon enough! Hopefully by the time I'm done those two, you'll have revealed at least the name of the book or maybe even a little bit of a preview of it here.

I hope you enjoy your days of relaxation (or relative relaxation at least) until September. Looking forward to the conference in October and your new book!

Fidgt,

The conference this year should be fun. Pink Slade and Slade are teaming up for a workshop on collaboration, Diana Gabaldon and Slade are doing a joint venture into history, and the Night Owl session - Dr. Jaykll and Mr. Slade - has become an afternoon anecdote fest:

Heyas Slade,

I know, I'm so excited. I've signed up to volunteer for the conference as I only live a few blocks away from the Sheraton. I've signed up as a volunteer workshop monitor for the Backstory workshop, the Putting The Fear Into Contemporary Fantasy workshop and for the Dr. Jakyll & Mr. Slade workshop. I have no idea if I'll actually be assigned for those workshops, but I'm hoping for the best!

Slyragz,

You bet I'm being cagey. Last time, I dropped a single hint, and you guessed the title right off the bat.
