Discuss the novel Kamikaze with fellow Sladists...
The most merciful thing in the world... is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. - H. P. Lovecraft

After re-reading the Kamikaze Morgue Section and then reading the new News Page it occurred to me it might be interesting to see some extra background information on the Potsdam diary entries and his letters.

PohlSE,

What's crucial is to remember is that to the Japanese of the 1940s, their Emperor was divine.

The Potsdam Declaration was akin to a conquering enemy saying to the U.S., "You will surrender and denounce your belief in God." All that "In God We Trust" stuff and hand over the heart and "God Bless America" will be abolished.

(And if you don't kowtow to our demand, then we're going to fry you alive with a weapon you don't know about.)

This adds a whole new dimension to the "Take it, reverend!" scene in Primal Scream. I've heard accounts recently of a person who had to appear before the tribunal and testify about what happend to them at the residential school at St. Mary's in Mission, BC. Heartbreaking stuff. My parents never went to any rez school so I'm lucky in a lot of ways. The reverberations still affect my community, and me 50 years later though.
I wish the media would report more on public service and charity news instead of gossip. It is of much greater value. - Jackie Chan
