COWBOYS AND ALIENS

Interesting and entertaining concept for a film. I liked it! :D

SickThing recommended a Disney film called ENCHANTED to me a while back. I picked up a used copy of it at my friend's toy store last week, and we watched it last night.

What a delightful film! Such a great concept for a film! It's definitely a keeper!

Thanks SickThing!!!

SickThing recommended a film called MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY at the same time he recommended ENCHANTED. I found a copy of it at my friend's toy store last week, and watched it yesterday. A very enjoyable romp, with fabulous Art Deco sets. I'd recommend it to anyone!

Watched RUSH last night - Ron Howard's film about the rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt, and Nicki Lauda. Thought it was very good, and would highly recommend it to anyone!

I don't know if it will turn out to be good, but it sure is going to be an interesting thing to see. A 100 year old lost Sherlock Holmes film has been found. It's undergoing restoration, and will be made available to view at a later date.

THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING
THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING

Quite an amusing little piece of cinema! Great cast, and cute storyline of a Russian submarine grounding itself off the eastern coast of the US. All they want is a boat to pull them off the reef, but Cold War mania takes over in massive comedic proportions. It was Alan Arkin's big screen debut.

According to the 30 minute featurette on the DVD, it was well received in the Soviet Union too.

Found the DVD at a local thrift store ... apparently out of print now, and selling for quite a bit online.

If you enjoy watching Formula 1 races, or would like to know a bit of the history behind Formula 1 racing , more specifically about the safety aspects in its history, then I would highly recommend the film "1" (sometimes called FORMULA 1, or 1: LIFE ON THE LIMIT). Very well done documentary film, that tells the history in a very engaging way. The music score is fantastic, and the sound is great. I'd say the main weak point is the narration by actor Michael Fassbender.

Here's the trailer:

You can watch it in its entirety on Streetfire:

Love the song that plays over the opening credits:

GET CARTER (1971)

Man, Michael Caine plays just about the most cold eyed killer I've ever seen in this. He's brilliant! Roy Budd's theme for the film is great too. Another film added to my collection of early Michael Caine films in which he had a lead role.

It now consists of GET CARTER, THE ITALIAN JOB, SLEUTH, THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING, and ZULU. I've been looking for a copy of ALFIE, but only find copies of the Jude Law remake.

I'd welcome any other suggestions anyone could add.

Here's the theme music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kMhcf8eyiA

I wouldn't watch the trailer if you haven't seen the film ... it gives too much of the film away.

In the so bad that it's actually rather entertaining category, I watched BARBARELLA yesterday. Had never seen it before.

I think it would make a good double bill with FLASH GORDON.

Found a cheap used copy of WHITE HOUSE DOWN yesterday. I really liked this film!

Totally agree with the assessment that it is DIE HARD at the White House too.

I know a lot of people dis' on Roland Emmerich's films, but say what you will, I think he makes highly entertaining popcorn flicks. Yes, even his GODZILLA film with Matthew Broderick, and Jean Reno.

There, I said it!!!

I agree..
Sometimes you just want to go to the cinema and watch a film with loads of special affects and no real storyline..

In another case of you'd think I would have seen this film years ago, I watched CLIFFHANGER for the first time last night. Truly enjoyable action flick!

It great to watch an action film with characters you actually care about for a change. Renny Harlin was able to make me care about the character who dies just minutes into the film, even in that incredibly short period of time you see her on camera.

So much of what is being made today, are flimsy storylines that are really just a framework to hang all the CGI off of, with characters so thin that you don't give a flying fig what happens to them. And that goes for these super hero action flicks too. I've only just recently seen films like Thor, Iron Man, and The Avengers, and you know what? ... I really don't get what people are going on about these films. I found myself not caring a whit about the characters in them, and not particularly impressed by all the CGI either.

Makes me wonder whether I should even bother with Guardians Of The Galaxy, as I now suspect it's just going to be yet another case of an overhyped crapfest, with shallow unsympathetic characters, hung on a special effects fiasco, and precious little real storyline to it.

Give me an old fashioned action flick, any time of the day.
