Saw Battleship yesterday and I enjoyed it as well. I do like the other movies Peter Berg has directed: Friday Night Lights, Hancock. Loved the pump up moment when the AC/DC started kicking in and they fired up the Missouri. Being a geezer doesn't mean you can't throw down with the best of 'em!!!

Loved Amazing Grace when I saw it and can't recommend it enough. Wish the star's name was easier to remember how to spell. Ioen Griffud...or something like that. Sorry UK folks but some names over there are pronounced way differently than they're spelled so sometimes it's harder for me to put names to faces. Anyways, the bagpipes rendition of Amazing Grace was just inspiring. The scene where he brought the lords and ladies near the slave ship was brilliant. I could imagine the stench myself! William Wilburforce was a great person, judging from this movie.

I watched an Austrian/German film called DOWNFALL last night.

WOW!!! What a powerful film!

I recounts the chaos that went on in Hitler's bunker during the final days of the Third Reich, from the viewpoint of Hitler's secretary, Traudl Junge. Bruno Ganz puts in an absolutely brilliant performance as The Fuhrer.

One of the key scenes in the film has been parodied many times on Youtube, but here you can watch it with its real subtitles:

I'd highly recommend this film.

Picked up a VHS copy of THE GREAT RACE at a thrift store yesterday. (Yes, I still have a VCR). What a wonderful little romp of a film. I'd never actually seen it before, except for seeing this scene online a few times.

Two movies to talk about; one isn’t in theaters yet (but is on VOD), the other has already come and gone from the theaters.

“” will be released on January 25th into theaters and is currently available on VOD. I Downloaded it to my PS3 and watched it on Friday.

You all have heard me sing the praises of the book of the same name and the movie, while changing quite a bit of the book (out of necessity) captures it’s spirit very well. I would recommend the movie (and book) to anyone. It is different yet familiar, intelligent and idiotic, and I would bet money it becomes a classic.

“” was released into theaters last year and was promptly ignored and vanished. I saw it today on Blu-Ray.

Sometimes when a movie tanks and I see it later I can totally understand why it failed. Not this time. For the LIFE of me I cannot see why audiences stayed away. This film is FUN! It is a VERY faithful adaptation of the 2000 AD comic and it contains all the little touches that made the comic great. However it also creates a very real, believable, and disturbing Mega City 1. Granted it isn’t for the squeamish, but that’s what an “R” rating is for.

Both movies are great. Watch and enjoy.

After I posted that I went back and watched Dredd again. I think this film should have been a big hit. I am flummoxed as to its failure.

Unfortunately, we probably won't get a sequel since it did so poorly. But I would love some more stories from inside Mega City 1.

I've seen all of Tarantino's films save for Jackie Brown and Kill Bill Vol. 2. Didn't like any of them. Well, I did enjoy the first 15 or 20 minutes of Inglourious Basterds, but that's pretty much it.

Last night I saw Django Unchained. Wow. This film was strong from minute one until the end credits rolled. Truly incredible. I'll want to see this one again at some point.

I have yet to hear anything bad about Django.

Here's my question; is there anything I would be missing from not seeing it on the big screen and just waiting for VOD or Blu-Ray?

When it comes to Tarantino's flicks my main complaint becomes his inability to edit long scenes. In Inglourious Basterds the opening scene in the farm house and the bar scene in the middle were both in desperate need of a 5-7 minute trims. They unbalanced the film for me.

Well, I haven't watched it yet, but I believe it will fit nicely into the 'Good Films' category once I have ...

Today I found a DVD of the 1972 version of SLEUTH at a thrift store. The one Anchor Bay released in 2002. Tuesday is Senior's Day, and I was shopping with my mother, so I got 30% off the $4.99 price on it. It would appear it's one of those Out Of Print DVDs, so copies of it are selling for a fortune on both amazon and eBay. I guess I did well picking it off the shelf.

Just finished watching "" and I loved it!

This is another I would recommend to anyone, but Slade, you in particular, I think, would really enjoy this one.

Give it a chance.

BTW, don't miss the uncredited cameo by Joan Jett during the Seventeen segment.
