Ok will do, you know i was quite shocked to find out Branagh was behind this

I was shocked as well. Unfortunately I was expecting a Branagh film when I saw it first and couldn't believe all the faults I was finding with it.... Later I re-watched it but with a MST3K frame of mind. Then I got it; it's a 100 million dollar B movie. Which is fine, I like B movies, but I didn't expect it from Branagh.

Well it was watchable i suppose, the 'comedy' grated a bit though to be honest, and i noticed Hawkeye is sort of introduced in it so, i guess, next stop 'The Avengers' 8-)

Your reward for making it through Thor:

EW Avengers trailer

I was never a big Marvel guy, but it does look like fun.

Thanks for that, that's the brand new trailer isn't it ? Well most of us are older now and we grew up to some degree with heroes and villains but i am really looking forward to this film, it has so much promise...mind you there has been countless let downs so we'll have to see but come on, all these heroes together in one film, got to be good, right.

I just hope it's more Captain America or Iron Man like than Thor or Hulk like.

And I wish DC (my fav comic company) could pull it's head out of it's ass and put together a good Justice League film (in the vein of The Dark Knight, of course). Or at least keep their standard higher than Green Lantern from now on. Although I still say The Ultimate Cut of The Watchmen is the true standard bearer for Superhero team movies.

Well everyone is touting The Avengers as "Iron man and friends" ha,ha.

I haven't had the compulsion to watch Green Lantern yet, maybe because it's as bad as it looks ? Enjoyed the new Batman movies and The dark knight rises 'looks' as though it'll kick arse, Bane is a tad small for my liking though but, hey, it's Tom Hardy so should be fun.

Also i do hope a Justice league film happens...it could hopefully lead up to an adaptation of one of the greatest comic books i have read, Death of Superman and Return of Superman. (It is the Justice League that fights Doomsday first isn't it ?).

Coincidentally i found my old, old, comic stash the other day -

Also this one is supposedly worth a lot, or at least i was told it was a few years back.

The first Superhero to set my mind on fire was BLACKHAWK. Here, run through the covers and you'll see what I mean:

http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/blackhawk

http://ourworlds.topcities.com/blackhawk/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackhawk_(comics)

The first issue in 1941 predated Pearl Harbor.

If you know your artists, the power behind BLACKHAWK was Will Eisner, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Eisner and Reed Crandall (who cross-overed with EC), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_Crandall

JB,

How bad you think Green Lantern is will depend on how much leeway you want to give the crew involved... What mean by that is; when I watched Green Lantern I, being a fan of DC, wanted them to do well so I gave them some credit for trying... And was still disappointed. The mistake they made was instead of JUST dealing with Hal Jordan's origin story (and leave the rest for sequels) they tried to cram in that plus the history of the Green Lantern Corps, The Guardians of OA, Parallax, Sinistro's origin and decent, Earth's place in the galaxy, etc. As if you can cram 40 years of history into two hours.

A lot of people forget that "less is more." If they had just kept it simple and deal with Hal on Earth learning his powers and fighting an earth bound villain or two, they could have ended it with him being summoned to Oa and meeting the Corps... Tune in next time for more adventures of The Green Lantern! Origin story first, then you can just tell good stories taken from/inspired by that character's books.

That's a similar complaint to the one I have about the upcoming Spiderman and Superman reboots; WHY DO ANOTHER ORIGIN STORY?! Spidey is bitten by a spider, Supes is from Krypton, we KNOW! Both of those characters have had their origins portrayed numerous times in multiple mediums. Now just tell a good story and stop putting in the kitchen sink every damn time.

I'm starting to rant. Sorry.

Slade,

I'd love to see the Blackhawk comics adapted into film... But for now we may have already gotten as close as we can, stylized though it may be:

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

PohlSE,

I agree. I, too, was a DC fan, and I read GREEN LANTERN along with the Usual Suspects.

Rant away, i don't mind, i complain enough about things i like going wrong when televised or filmed etc.

I agree about that we don't need MORE origin stories. I think that is what Batman got right, get his origin out the way then bring in the villains in other films, Heath as Joker is classic, unfortunately Nolan sees fit to only do a trilogy...

I enjoyed the earlier Spiderman reboot, even the face off with Green Goblin was arse kicking fun, Spiderman 2 was good but they dropped the ball a bit in regards to the final fight with Doc. Ock, was a lovely long fight but it happened too soon towards the end then the rest of the film lost steam slightly...now what are your feelings on Spiderman 3, my goodness i was so looking forward to that, Spidey vs Venom !!...then Raimi ****** it up by having 2 villains and it was a pile of poo overall, Sandman is a good villain don't get me wrong but the film should have just been Venom, and, and....i'll stop before i start to rant ha,ha.

That sounds like a lot of stuff to cram in one film, r.e. Green Lantern, which is silly...tell you what i'm going to try and borrow it today to watch later

I have just watched to Green lantern trailer to refresh my memory before watching the film later...why, why, why does yet another film have to rely on inane 'comedy' moments

Ah well, we'll see how it goes...

Spidey 3 suffered from the same syndrome; too much story. There were two movies worth of story crammed in there and the final result suffered badly. That is the first time I've seen Rami fall victim to that trap. Usually he is excellent at keeping his movies simple and fun.

Nolan nailed the formula with Batman and The Dark Knight. Even though The Dark Knight had a lot of story going on it was a flawlessly executed and kept the focus on the characters and their motivations, using the action set pieces as backdrops for character development.

I expect his final Batman will take the Knightfall story arc and combine it with the Batman Incorporated series to end his trilogy... That's my guess anyway.

When a character becomes an Icon, hardcore fans bathe in a communal pool. Once we know the backstory, we're ready to rock-'n'-roll. You can't have half the audience thinking our Hero comes from Hell, and the other half thinking he came from Star X in a spaceship. If you're doing BATMAN, then do BATMAN. And if you think you can do better on the backstory, create something new and don't mess with our fantasies. Hollywood's in a panic because a costly flop will kill your career, so we're getting remake after remake for a built-in audience, and then some fool messes with the backstory because he's desperate to find a new angle to sell the same-old same-old to the Great Unwashed again.

That's where SHERLOCK got it right. Yes, the Great Detective is in modern London, but all the standard requirements are there. Watson's back from the Afghan War with a wound, he's recording Sherlock's exploits in a blog, if it's a tough case, it's a three-nicotine-patch problem, etc., etc.

Brilliant. Old Sherlock fans are happy and laughing at the intelligence of it all, and potential new fans who thought Sherlock was a crusty old relic from the late 1800s are roped in.

Nolan's JOKER is the same. Heath wears the classic Joker makeup, but it's slapped on, caked, smeared, and so psychotic. The old becomes new, and we're hooked...not seething because it's screwed up.

And that's why I hope the American Sherlock crashes, burns, and dies a death akin to the Ghoul

Indeed!

I absolutely loved the introduction of the deerstalker cap in series 2 of Sherlock.
