Ahh. I should clarify that I only buy the hardcovers so I only need the latest one, which is #5. I don't buy single issues because it's akin to getting one slice of pizza rather than a whole pie.
This series is epic. _________________

YA, they brought out the HC, I was already purchasing the graphic novels( hold 6 issues..the HC1 is graphic novel 1-2 so issues 1-12) I lost my book 3-4 so I purchased book HC 2 as replacement ) and yes..the series is definately Epic and I hope it does really well as a TV show...so far I like the casting I saw.and on a side note...bought a little Japanese gem last week-end, entitled Uzumaki..disturbing movie, kinda reminds me of the world of H.P Lovecraft...people from a small village become obsessed with Uzumakis (Spirals..) a must see it was a fan favorite at Fantasia Festival 2000 if memory serves me right..and it's based on a manga _________________ Land of our birth,we pledge to thee

This one needs more than one viewing, and I'm surprised it's not got a thread to itself.
Did you see how they decided or controlled whose dream they were all going into? If it was there, I missed it. _________________ "If the monkeys can't peel bananas, why teach them rocket science?" - Verbatim reply from a Deputy Director at my great company when asked about training. |

Found a super cheap DVD of BLACK SUNDAY at a thrift store yesterday, and watched it last night. I'd only ever seen the film in bits and bobs on televison in the past, but never all the way through from start to finish.
It really is a very good film. The action in it just seemed so much more realistic than that in the movies that come out these days. Robert Shaw and Bruce Dern were excellent. And that chase involving the Goodyear Blimp at the end was fantastic!
Funny thing is that you could definitely hear hints of John Willams' score for STAR WARS in the score he created for this film. _________________

It should have its own thread. I have a link that you should see if you've seen it. I'll PM it to you. It details what happened as well as the clues sprinkled throughout the film. Very nice. _________________

raasnio ~ Could you pm the link as well (when you have a moment)? I'm still scratching my head after viewing Inception. Thanks! _________________ ~ Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl ~

It's sure as eggs is eggs if I start an Inception thread, someone else will also post one the instant I hit 'Submit' and we'll have two.
So, for this thread here's another 'explained' link, riven with spoilers. And thanks, raasnio.
This film's going to be discussed as long and ramblingly(???) as Blade Runner. Have you heard about the music yet?

Well, I'm not sure if it's going to be a good film, but Piranha 3D is sure going to be a gory one.

Consider the trailer to be Not Safe For Work before you click the video link on the page, as there's some nudity in it. _________________

I've watched the trailer a couple of times. I'll watch it on Blu-ray, for sure. Not sure if I'll plunk down cash to see it at the theater, though. _________________

Just watched Paranormal Activity and thought it was pretty good.
I'm not a fan of the docu-drama style so I usually avoid films done in that style (Diary of the Dead, Cloverfield, Rec, etc...). But after a while I didn't really notice it too much since the camera was mostly on a tri-pod and not being jerked around in a puke inducing fashion.
I really liked that they didn't show you everything that was going on, leaving your imagination to fill in the blanks.
The movie was very suspenseful and creepy while serving up some good jumps and twitches. But not terrifying or deeply disturbing.
I think most horror fans would call it a good "entry level" horror flick. _________________ PohlSE@stevepohl.com

I finally got around to watching M. Night Shyamalan's film SIGNS last night.
When I was out the other day I found a used 2-disc DVD set with the widescreen version of SIGNS, and the fullscreen version of THE VILLAGE in it for $4.
Not bad, but definitely no UNBREAKABLE, or THE SIXTH SENSE. Those of you who have been around on this board for a while probably remember me saying that I prefer UNBREAKABLE over THE SIXTH SENSE. It's probably due to the fact that I had the twist at the end of TSS figured out pretty much from the point where the Bruce Willis character is standing outside the boy's house, observing him. Once you know the twist, it takes a lot out of watching the film. Since there isn't really the same calibre of twist at the end of UNBREAKABLE, it makes it a much better film for repeated viewings.
I can't say as I was entirely gripped by SIGNS, but maybe a second viewing some time will change that. Wish the set had the widescreen version of THE VILLAGE, but I guess beggars can't be choosers, since I imagine putting the two together was probably a ploy by Disney to get rid of some extraneous fullscreen copies of the film by pairing them with the other film.
Now I guess I'll have to watch it some day soon, and see what I think of that one. Not sure whether I'll bother with LADY IN THE WATER, or THE HAPPENING, since they don't seem to be rated all that high. _________________

My opinion of M. Night Shyamalan's flicks is pretty harsh:
I liked The Sixth Sense but to me it isn't rewatchable.
I thought Unbreakable was unforgivably slow and dull with no payoff to justify it.
Signs loses me because the only place in North America where a farm doesn't have a rifle available is in the empty little minds of Hollywood producers/directors.
I liked the Village. Call me crazy, this one worked for me.
Lady in the Water was one of the stupidest films I've ever seen. Just... Mind numbingly awful. I kept waiting for the Energizer bunny to come wheeling through the frame.
The Happening... Nature striking back at the evil humans... >gak< Sorry, I just threw up in my mouth a little....
...And now I won't watch anything else M. Night Shyamalan does.
Devil looks interesting... But no. I've said those words before and been proven oh so wrong.
My apologies to any M. Night Shyamalan fans. These are just my opinions, your movie going experiences may differ greatly. _________________ PohlSE@stevepohl.com

Okay, PohlSE & Mbwun, I'll come in swinging.
First, ALIEN is my kind of fright flick. I like 'em well-made, relentless, and truly shocking.
I have no time for "horror lite" - lace doilly stuff that promises "This won't scare you too much."
Horror for folks who can't take horror...so they can titter that they can.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY was an eeeendless bore. Mindless goofs crapping themselves because a door moved.
And as for Mr. M. (Yawn) Night Shyamalan, he's the King of Horror Lite.
If you want ghosts, try THE HAUNTING (1963): Director Martin Scorsese placed THE HAUNTING first on his list of the 11 scariest horror films of all time.
Or THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE (1973): The screenplay is by Richard Matheson, from his novel.
Or THE INNOCENTS (1961): based on THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Henry James. William Archibald and Truman Capote won the 1962 Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Motion Picture Screenplay.

I've seen the Haunting and Hell House and I like both of them. I also really liked The Changeling (1980) and the original The Amityville Horror (1979).
For me it can be shocking or it can be creepy and suspenseful, but it has to be supernatural/paranormal for it to really feel like a horror flick. If it's something that can be taken care of with a few blasts from a shotgun then it isn't deeply scary. _________________ PohlSE@stevepohl.com

I've never really considered M. Night Shyamalan's work to be in the horror category. More in the mystery/suspense category with an element of horror to it.
Watched THE VILLAGE last night, and liked it better than SIGNS. I still don't think I'll bother with any more of his films, unless I find incredibly cheap copies of them somewhere - like the set I just bought.
I do own UNBREAKABLE (bought new when it was first released), and the 2-disc THE SIXTH SENSE (bought used for $7 at the same place - Willow Video). _________________
